
Topic: IWEA (International Wind Energy Academy)
Mr. Kris Hodgson, will speak about the IWEA initiative underway at Lethbridge College. Lethbridge College is offering four new exciting courses starting in January 2012. Courses include Wind Park Construction which provides the entry level skills for employment on one of many wind farms being constructed in the region and around the world. Pre-Employment Electrician/ Solar/ Wind Installer program students receive extensive hands-on and theoretical training related to residential and commercial electrical installation as well as information on constructing, installing and maintaining small wind turbines and solar PV panels.
Lethbridge College also has a diverse program called Introduction to Trades that educates students about several trades to enable students to make the best decision. Lastly, Pre-Employment Welding / Pipeline Assistant Program is a 13-week course which allows registrants to write the first year Welding Apprenticeship theory and practical exams.

Kris Hodgson's vision is to see renewable energy development projects initiated across southern Alberta showcasing the great opportunity to harness the power from the sun and wind. Through education, training, economic development initiatives and lobbying, Kris has been at the centre of encouraging investment attraction into the Wild Rose Province. As a Wind Energy Community Liaison with Lethbridge College he encourages development of demonstration sites, education on energy efficiency / small wind / solar and to offer the extremely successful Wind Turbine Technician Training Program online and with mobile training units.
