LFS-IS in the community. Ms. Amies will focus on the who, why and how of Immigrant Services. She will provide information about the client base and some of the special programming undertaken. Sarah will finish with some information on how community members and groups can help newly landed immigrants in the community.

Agency Bio:
Immigrant Services is one of five departments under the Lethbridge Family Services umbrella. The department has been offering settlement services to newly landed permanent residents from all over the world since 2000 and has, over the last ten years, experienced significant growth mirroring the increased federal and provincial foci on immigration to Canada.
The Immigrant Services department provides settlement services through both federal and provincial funders and offers programming support through the Integrated Service Program, the Resettlement Assistance Program, the HOST Volunteer Program, the Youth Empowerment Program and the School Based Settlement Support program.
Speaker Bio:
Sarah Amies became the Program Director of Lethbridge Family Services - Immigrant Services in January 2001. Since that time she has been closely involved with the settlement and integration of increasing numbers of new immigrants planning to make a life in Lethbridge.
Sarah regularly delivers cultural awareness and competency presentations to diverse groups of professional service providers, educators and students in Lethbridge. She is also an active member of a number of key boards and committees including Social Housing in Action, the Building Bridges anti bullying program, the Lethbridge Community Network and the Family Violence/Elder Abuse Prevention and Awareness Initiative. She sits on the executive of the Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies and chairs their Communications sub Committee.
Sarah considers herself an active and committed participant in the drive to develop an increasingly welcoming and supportive community for new immigrants and their families.
