Mr. Neuberger will speak to the OLBBC about his cancer survival, his book "let's Talk about it" and his post cancer life mission to bring awareness about cancer in young adults.
Speaker Bio:
Born and raised in Weyburn Saskatchewan, Darren Neuberger is the youngest son of Bernie and Ella Neuberger. Darren currently resides in Lethbridge Alberta with his wife Jaylene Ulmer and their dog Tobi.
Darren was 34 years old when his very active life was put on an immediate halt. A nagging, persistent cough was officially diagnosed as Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia on August 5, 2003.
Married for not quite 3 years at the time of diagnosis, Darren quickly came to the realization that he had to get ready for an epic battle; he was not ready for his wife to be a widow at the age of 29. His medical protocol called for 2 straight years of treatments. Darren finished his treatments on July 27, 2005 and loves his new life in complete remission.
Today, Darren is a carrying out his passion in this fight against cancer in many different ways. He’s a trained Certified Empowerment Coach through Certified Coaches Federation, a peer support volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society’s CancerConnection program, an Angel with Imermans Angels out of Chicago, hosts an internet radio show called Let’s Talk About It every Wednesday evening on Blog Talk Radio and mentors many fellow young cancer survivors throughout Canada and the United States. He is very proud of his book of young adult cancer survivor stories titled let’s Talk! about it. inspiring stories from young adult cancer survivors. Darren collected 40 stories from young adults that were diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 15-45. The book is available on line at both Amazons, Barnes and Noble and his web site. His life mission post cancer is to bring awareness about cancer in young adults – we are not bullet proof from it and to talk about prevention, let’s stop it before it has a chance to start.
Darren comes from a very strong athletic background, particularly in baseball. As a player and later a coach, Neuberger has been on 4 Provincial Champion, 1 Western Canadian and 1 National Champion winning Weyburn Saskatchewan Teams.
These days, Darren can be found on any given sunny day in the summer at many of the beautiful golf courses throughout Southern Alberta.
