Knud Petersen, Chair of SACPA

Topic: Is SACPA still relevant 50 some years after it was formed? Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA) was founded in 1967. It is an independent forum, moderated by volunteers, to debate local, provincial, national, and international issues of concern to the residents of Lethbridge and Southern Alberta. SACPA seeks to promote a sense of community and citizenship amongst the public. It is strictly non-partisan in its political outlook and encourages the expression of divergent viewpoints. Knud Petersen immigrated to Canada from Denmark in 1965 and had a successful career in agriculture in both Ontario and Alberta, retiring in 1994 as a partner in Perry Produce Potato Farm. Knud is well known in the Lethbridge Community for his love of athletics, including initiating the Kodiak Women soccer program at Lethbridge College in 1994, winner that same year of the Canadian Championship. He is the recipient of the Pronghorn Athletics Gary Bowie Leadership Award, University of Lethbridge Senate Volunteer Award, and an Honourary Degree from Lethbridge College. His extensive volunteerism includes leadership roles with the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame, Lethbridge 55 Plus 2015 Alberta Winter Games, Lethbridge Food Bank and the Readymade Community Association.
