Maureen Sexsmith-West: Ladybug Arborist

Topic: Ladybug Arborists

Speaker Bio:
Having worked primarily in management positions, Maureen took a job at a local golf course in 1995 and found working outdoors really suited her.  Maureen moved with her two daughters to Lethbridge in 1996.  Her career as an arborist/landscape gardener was solidified at the Henderson Lake Golf Club.  She has worked as an Arborist at Land-o-Lakes Golf Club, Grants Plants and Rossco's Tree Services.

Maureen became an ISA Certified Arborist in 2003.  She continues her education and has recently renewed her ISA Tree Risk Assessor Qualification along with the Qualified Tree and Plant Appraiser.  One of her most passionate topics is heritage trees.  Maureen served as a Member of the Regional Selection Committee and Verification Arborist for the Alberta Heritage Tree Project.

Maureen became the Ladybug Arborist in 2012.  Today she offers tree care services, consulting services, public education programs and one-on-one training for a wide range of clients. She mentors her staff as they develop skills in a wide range of arboricultural services to become Certified.

Both personally and professionally, she has donated time generously to support horticultural projects, charitable and non-profit organizations wherever she has resided.  Maureen is a Provincial Judge for Communities in Bloom. As an active member of the International Society of Arboriculture, she was Chair of the 2006 and 2019 Tree Climbing Championships and two Professional Development Conferences hosted in Lethbridge.  Maureen facilitates numerous regional professional development workshops.  She has been a judge or volunteer at numerous ISA Prairie Chapter Tree Climbing Championships.  This year, at the ripe at of 56, Maureen will  be competing with her staff for the first time.  She provide workshops and public speaking topics all over Alberta.
