Filling in the Gaps: Supporting At-Risk Youth in Transition to Adulthood

This presentation is a reflection of my capstone project for my Masters of Arts in Social Impact, which was completed in August, 2020. I will review our current models and approaches for working with at-risk youth and how a personalized, human-centric approach can fill in the gaps in supports. In particular, I will demonstrate how an evaluative tool that is focused on the human journey can create a personalized, just-in-time support system for at-risk youth. I’ll share some reflections of my experience in a research model called “Participatory Action Research” and a little bit of what happened with my research participants after the project was completed.

I am a community-builder and connector. My focus is on empowering others to solve our world's most 'stuck' problems. My position at the University of Lethbridge as the Agility Program Manager allows me to work closely with our brightest minds: students. I create high-impact, experiential learning opportunities that focus on growing soft-skills and creative thinking. I firmly believe in the power of innovation as a mechanism to fuel our passions and solve problems. I am curious about innovation, social impact, entrepreneurship, human-centered design, education, and failing forward.
